After a lot of soul-searching, I've come to the sad conclusion that I simply don't have the time to continue updating this blog with so few regular readers. From this point on, all of the new textures and brushes, png files and photo textures will be uploaded directly to Free-3D-Textures.com.

Can you folks already believe its the end of June? I swear...every year older I get, the time goes faster. Summer has only just arrived and already I feel like it won't be here for long. Today we have only a couple of new textures uploaded to our main site. It isn't that we aren't updating the site regularly, but because there are a number of different products available on our site they don't all get updated every week. In the last week or two we've been updating the stock photos section, and adding files to the png and photoshop templates sections. This week we've added some new brushes, so I've only had time to prepare a few new textures.

First, the new photoshop brushes, all of which can be found on pages 2 and 3 of the Photoshop Brushes section:

Some of these brushes will be useful for the textures enthusiasts - particularly the leaves, bricks and splatter brushes.

Next up are the newly released textures - not very many I'm afraid, but hopefully useful. One is a rather nice background (abstract section); the others can be found on the last page of the stone, tile and brick section, and the final two on the last page of the wood & walls section.

Ahhhh, but we're still missing something here, aren't we? Well I haven't forgotten about the bonus textures for all you blog readers. Here's two bonus texture that I've taken out of my "sales" textures and am offering here free to my visitors.

The first is a red feather texture - you can see an example of both textures when rendered as an orb and as a rock in Bryce.

The second is a roughly textured abstract type titled "Blue Stone" which can be used as a background or in 3D renderings (because I think it renders rather nicely!).

That's it for this week. You may not see me here an awful lot through the summer because as I mentioned earlier, the summer swooshes by way too fast these days, and who wants to spend it indoors in front of a computer? mmm, not me. I want to enjoy the sunshine, warm days and lazy afternoons on the boat, or the beach...or maybe at the cottage. Isn't that what retirement is supposed to be?

You guys should do the same, whenever you can!

More Large Texture Files, and Bonus Textures Too.

I've pulled some of my commercial textures down off my sales sites and decided to offer them free to my visitors to Free-3D-Textures.com. As you know (if you actually read the text here and don't just grab the textures and run), the majority of our files are posted to our main site, but we update our readers on the new releases via our blog here.

Blog users get an added bonus - each of our posts (beginning this year) also contain bonus textures that you can only get from here - these aren't uploaded on our main texture site - that's because we want to let our blog-friends know that we appreciate them too!

Here's the bonus textures for today:

This 512 X 512 pixcel bonus texture in shades of dark and light blue, with tan crinkling is titled "Frozen Depths".

Bonus Texture Updates and Site Growth!

Today we're starting out by offering you a couple of Bonus Textures. You'll only be able to get these two textures here, from this blog. Our website doesn't offer any of these bonus textures, so grab your download right now, from here.

The two textures above are, quite obviously, wood. These are large hand-hewn square logs; the second texture has the rough dovetailing at the corners. These textures are from a hand-built log cabin that dates from the early 1800s.

If you want more (and different) wood textures from this cabin, visit the Wood and Walls texture section on Free-3D-Textures.com. There are five other textures from this cabin for you.

Before I show you the samples of the few other uploaded textures on our main site, I just wanted to update everyone a little on the main itself.

At the current moment we have:

Not a bad number, but I still have a few thousand images to sort through, so its a little slow-going, but I believe we'll continue grow at a reasonable rate over this next year.

New Stuff From our Texture Files PLUS Bonus Textures

Here we go with a bunch of new texture files for the fans out there. These are all abstract textures, and all of them are seamless files good for both 3D projects and backgrounds for web/blog or even printables, like greeting cards or business cards.

We've had a lot going on this month - it appears that in the last few months we've had a lot going on and are slower than slow in getting these new files out for you folks. Sorry about that, but the "stuff of life" sometimes intrudes and we have to put the needs of family and friends above the "free-stuff" that we put out. So, although we're running slower than usual, we haven't forgotten you and as we are able to, we'll post up our free textures and png files (working on a whole bunch of these right now, and have posted up a few over on Free-3D-Textures.com in the PNG file section) for our visitors.

One other thing I have spent a little time doing during the cold (and snowy!) months of February and March is playing a bunch of "Hidden Object" games, and I've been happy to note some of my PNG files used in some of these games. It's always nice to see some of your images being used!

Anyhow...on to the new textures. These are all available on the most recent pages in the Textures Section on Free-3D-Textures.com. If you haven't visited us there yet, you might want to. There are loads more textures available, including large backgrounds, PNG Files, Free Stock Photos, Photoshop-Templates and Photoshop-Brushes, as well as a few tutorials. Our site there also has some free featured "web-only" photos. These are photos that are sold on some of the stock-photo sites (my photos, not other people's) in their larger sizes, but for a short period of time smaller web-size versions are offered (on our front page) at a size of 600 pixels for free. These can only be used to illustrate articles/blog posts, and once they're gone from the front page you'd need to purchase their use at a stock photo site, so it pays to check our home page every week or so.

High Resolution Textures and More Free Bonus Textures

Today, I'm sitting in my office trying to decide whether to post the new textures, or whether to go outside and shovel the snow...for the third time today. Early this morning a very kind neighbour used his snowblower to clear away about six or seven inches so my husband could get out this morning, but by about 9:30am I had to finally go out and shovel. About a foot and a half all told, and now (early afternoon) it needs done again, and I sooooo do not want to go out and do it.

So, instead of the snow shoveling, I'm posting the textures for anyone else in my position...who just doesn't want to go outside and brave the cold. Maybe these will give you something new to do :)

These are just thumbnail sample size - the high resolution files are about 5000 pixels on their longest side, and no - these are not seamless, but there's a lot of surface area to work with, so it should be easy enough to isolate some sections and make your own seamless textures...possibly even some procedural ones.

You'll have to get larger files from Free-3D-Textures, on the Backgrounds page.

And below, for the folks who actually read this blog, there are a couple of bonus textures that you can only get here. These files are seamless and sized at 512 X 512 pixels.

High Resolution Backgrounds and Textures

Well, we've got something a little different to start of this week with. We've created a new batch of high resolution backgrounds for you - these are not seamless, but most are 5000 pixels on their longest side, so you have a whole lot of room to crop and edit and make your seamless textures if that's what you want.

These are also authentic vintage textures, taken from the framing or covers of some old-style vintage photo frames - mostly from the 1940s, though the red one is from the 1950s.

Because we're planning to add a bunch more of these, we've created a new section on Free-3D-Textures.com for these high resolution backgrounds. You'll find many uses for these, from creating your own seamless textures, to using in other editing/graphics progams, to using for portrait backgrounds and website/blog backgrounds.

You'll find these background (highly textured backgrounds) in the Backgrounds Section.

As we promised before, here are a couple of seamless textures that are only available here on this site - just for those of you who continue to visit us.

Seamless mottled brown and amber with a rock-like striations which might be good for ground or mountain terrains. This is sized at 512 pixels so you can just right-click and select "save as" to download it.

Another brown and amber seamless textures; this one created from one of the larger vintage background files. It has an interesting design when tiled.

A blue watercolour texture (also seamless in 512 X 512).

New Textures for a New Year - Bonus Textures Included

Well, we've had a rather busy and unexpected end to 2010. One of those unplanned glitches that caused us to forget all about making new textures. Early in December my husband's aortic heart valve (a transplant from 11 years ago) developed a hole that began leaking blood into his chest and around his lungs. This necessitated an urgent surgery - not to repair it, but to replace it. Being as this was the second such surgery, the surgery ended up being more difficult and a fair bit longer (over 7 hours long). He made through the surgery, but spent the next 3 and a half days in CICU due to complications from some of the drugs they were pumping into him - one which he cannot tolerate (though of course, they wouldn't listen to me since I'm not a doctor). One of those drugs caused him to flail about and be quite aggressive (which his not, he is as mild-mannered as a lamb), and during one of those periods he yanked out the central line in his carotid artery - another very major emergency since you'll bleed to death in about 2 minutes from that.

The hospital where they do this surgery is in a city about an hour and a half (on a good traffic day) from our home...and of course, I don't drive.

After all that, he was home from the hospital in couple of days (total in hospital time for this open heart surgery was 6 days...not long enough). He came home 1 day after our 35th anniversary - that was Dec. 20th, he came home the 21st. Early in the wee small hours of the 22nd, he suffered a heart attack (this is a guy with no heart disease other than a defective valve - no blocked arteries, nada) and ended up back in our own local hospital for another three and a half days, arriving back home on the evening of Dec. 25th (yeah, Christmas).

Since he also had not only a large chest incision but an incision in his groin (where they cull a vein for the heart surgery if it's needed) I followed the instructions sent home by the hospital to clean the areas with peroxide twice a day, and put on an antibiotic ointment. But from the day he arrived home I was certain the incision in his groin was infected, and told him so...almost every day after that. Finally, on the 27th of December I get him back to our hospital to check it out. They take one look, hook up two bags of IV antibiotics and phone the hospital that did the surgery. They wanted him back. The next day he goes back to have the incision checked, and ends up staying there for another week. We just got him again.

Okay, so you probably didn't come here looking for that story, nor for the excuses for not having any new textures, but that is in fact why there weren't any at all during December.

So, on with the new stuff. As is the norm for us, all the new textures are uploaded over in the textures section on Free-3d-Textures.com

Today's batch are almost all seamless, and are all located in the abstract textures section - pages 14 and 15. Below the samples are two Bonus textures that you can only download from this blog.

And the two bonus textures:

A seamless marble-like texture in gray, black and acqua.

New Textures with Two Bonus Textures

This month we've been (as seems to be the norm lately) a little slow in releasing new textures, but we've got nine new textures from Free-3D-Textures.com for the texture fans. As always, the new textures can be found on the last page of the subsection for each texture over on Free-3D-Textures.com, so the new Abstract textures would be found on the last page of Abstract Textures section.

The autumn leaf textures can be found in the Water/Sky/Earth Textures Section; the stone/gravel texture (last on the chart above) can be found in the Stone, Tile & Brick Section; all the other textures above are in the Abstract Section (last page).

For those of you who read our blog, or visit this site, here are two BONUS textures that you won't find on Free-3D-Textures.com - you can only get them right here, in this blog. To get these bonus textures just click the image to download them from their Picasa Web Album.

Although we're a little light on new texture releases this time, we also have quite a few new photos in the royalty free stock-photo section on Free-3D-Textures.com. These include some new photos in the nature section, and some cute Halloween Photos in the holiday section.

We've also begun a new section on our sister blog (Gracey's Free StockPhotos) for fans of digital jigsaw puzzles. We've got a couple of sections with free jigsaw puzzles you can download and play on your own computer. These are created using our own images and photos, and along with puzzles suitable for the older folks, we have a series of jigsaw puzzles geared towards kids using suitable graphics that will appeal to children. And, there's a series of jigsaw puzzles for the kid's that feature their own name as part of the puzzle. This is a new section, and it will grow as we receive requests for "Name" puzzles, so if you enjoy jigsaws, go have a look.

Recent Updates - Textures, PNG Files & Stock Photos

Here's some of our recent updates - these are mostly geared towards the PNG fans, and the stock photo users, but there are four (er, five actually) new textures. There's a couple of abstract textures, and some new textiles - notably, two textures of fur. Mink fur that is - I've currently got my grandmother's old mink stole (in perfect condition, I might add). While I personally would never wear or buy any fur, since I have it, I figure someone out there can probably make use of the fur as a texture.

Abstract Textures and Textile Textures

Both the PNG files and stock photos contain a lot of seasonal images, so if you are preparing for Halloween/Thanksgiving, or even Christmas, you might have an interest in some of these. PNG files include a cute little sparkly Christmas train and a Thomas train (engine only), as well as a couple of recycle bins - a black recycling box and a green compost bin.

Stock photos (also free to use) are mostly seasonal too - quite a few Christmas uploads, including a cool neon light christmas tree, some christmas village pieces (including Toronto's "Maple Leaf Gardens" reproduced in miniature size), a red velvet Santa and a few other useful things. As well, there are some harvest type images on the Halloween/Thanksgiving page - pumpkins with harvest decorations can be used for both Thanksgiving and Halloween.

Today we've got a batch of large size photographic textures. In this particular release, there are textures in almost every texture category over on Free-3D-Textures.com - the only category missing some new ones is the textiles.

Have a browse through the textures sections and see what new freebies you can find to use in your own work.

Along with the above texture uploads, there are some new image files uploaded in the royalty free stock photo section and the .png file section - notably, a Christmas Wreath and a Painted Guitar. I'm in the process of preparing Christmas files so they'll be available for downloading early, long before the Christmas rush.

Seamless Abstract Textures for 3D or Backgrounds

This week we have quite a good sized batch of textures - most of them are seamless tiles, so you'll find their sizes smaller than my usual uploads. These are sized at either 256 or 512 pixels, so downloads (download pages are on Free-3D-Textures.com) should be pretty quick for those.

There are also a few non-seamless photographic textures - some stone and rock files, and one of heavily charred wood in the Wood & Walls section.

The first 16 textures can be found in the Abstract Texture section on Page 13 and Page 14; the next six are in the Stone, Tile and Brick Section, while the last one is in the Wood and Walls Section.

Other updates this week included a small selection of royalty free stock photos - a bird variety, some buildings and houses, and some landscapes.

New Site Updates, New Textures, New Look

Well, sort of a new look. Oh, no - not here, but over on Free-3D-Textures.com. What we've been doing is trying to shorten some of the pages a little. Most of our pages are rather heavily loaded with graphics and images, and for some visitors, the pages can load pretty slow even though the thumbnails are not very big. So, what we're doing is reducing the length of the pages. Now you'll find only five rows of three larger thumbnails each.

Because some of sections have a lot more in them, it's taken a while just to get the few sections done that we did do, however the most visited pages (the Abstract Textures, the Stone & Brick Textures, and the Rust Textures) are completed. The unfortunate part is that some of the links from this blog, to the pages where the textures reside will need to be changed...that's hundreds and hundreds of links on this blog, so it's going to take a long time to fix that. The current links in the archives aren't broken, and still go to a texture page, it just may not be the one that particular texture resides on now.

If you run across any of the old links that lead to a page for a texture you want, and the texture isn't on that page, please let us know. In the meantime, you can always use the site search to find it by description.

Okay, that's only part of the updates - we've still got a batch of new textures for you too. Most of them will be on page 12 or 13, but there's a few that went onto some of the older pages to fill in some spaces.

The above textures: "A Little Bit of Everything"; Brown, Black Blue; Orange Brown Mix, and Wild Paints. Those are all on Page 13 of the AbStract Textures.

This bunch of textures: Fractal Flower Background; Pink Flower Bower, Black Rock Background, Green Travertine. The Fractal Flower & Pink Bower are in the abstract section, and the remaining two can be found on Page 7 of the Stone, Tile & Brick texture section.

Textures in the above grouping: Concrete #2, Red Rock Texture, Stone Wall #2 and Rusted Cracks #4. The first three are on Page 7 of the Stone, Tile & Brick section, the last one on Page 3 of the Rust section.

These are some of the new textures in the Water, Earth and Sky section - there's a couple more that didn't get included in the sample swatch here, but they'll be on the last page of that section.

There are probably a few more textures scattered throughout the textures that didn't get included in the samples - we had a fair number of updates this week. There were also updates in the stock photos, the graphics, and the photo frames sections. One of the photo batches is probably going to be of interest to those who use textures - these 8 photos are similar to the waves textures uploaded to the water section of the textures, but each is slightly different. They are large enough for you to crop the water portions out that you need, so you can find these on the Landscapes: Summer & Fall if you want to have a look.

Abstract Textures from Fractals

I've been playing around a little with my fractal renderer (Apophysis) - again. I love this for it's ease of use and small footprint on my computer, but I also really like the wonderful abstract designs and colours I can coax out of it's engine. Beauty in shape, depth and colour, and their uses are varied - from large abstract prints, to textures for 3D renders, to background for cards, paper and websites. It's really the flexibility in it's final designs that strike a chord with me.

New fractal renders have been uploaded in the abstract section over at Free-3D-Textures.com, and you can head over there to download any of these if you have a use for them. Nearly all of these are larger than 2000 pixels in width, so you have a wide range of options for use.

Visit this page in the abstract texture section to download individual files.

There's a few other new photo textures in the Metals and; Rust section and the Stone, Tile and Brick section, but the majority of this update is the marvelous abstracts above.

In the graphics section there's a new grunge background - it's full size is 3200 pixels wide if you download the original file from Free-3D-Textures.com, so it can be used as a printable background or as a web page background.

This background is in taupe, tan and dark browns, and has an overlay under the clear area of old maps. The clear area left for text or images is textured with leather.

There have also been a lot of free "royalty free" photos uploaded in the photo section this update - some of which may be useful for cropping textures out of. A number of outdoor park images with lots of grass, and some new ones in the buildings section where you can pull out windows, doors, and siding textures.

Look for these in the royalty free stock photos section in the various categories.

Recent Textures

The last few months have been pretty busy with family issues and we're not finished with them yet. As well, I've taken on building a few websites, which not normally something I do - one for an entertainer, one for a photographer, one for a local race car driver, and other photography site. Two, are regular sites built with a site builder of sorts, and two were built on blogger, using the new blog designer function and purchasing a domain through blogger. These are pretty simple, and you can create a rather nice site using blogger, the template designer and the page function. This makes it easy for almost anyone to set up a site, as opposed to a blog.

Anyway, onto the few textures I have managed to get uploaded. As always, you'll need to go Free-3D-Textures to get the full size image files. The easiest way to find the correct page for each of the textures below is to access the News and Updates page on Free-3D-Textures - the small thumbnails for each texture will take you to the appropriate page for downloading the full size file.

The first three textures are from the abstract category - a rough blue texture, a dark blue/gray texture and and a rough orange texture. The next four textures are from the Stone, Tile and Brick category - a brown brick texture with rough surface, a rough clay tile for floors, small round river stones in dark colours, and some glass tiles in a pale yellowish tone. There's one tile in the rust and metals section, and two files in the water, eath, dirt and sky section - leaves and sky and a rippled water texture.

For those who also use the free photo frames, there are four new files in the frames section. One of the samples can be seen below:

This last week has updates to just a couple of the texture categories on Free-3D-Textures.com, but they're something a little different than my usual textures.

Nearly all of these are seamless tile textures, and although they are sized at 1024 X 1024 or 2048 X 2048, they are seamless already.

There's a few in the abstract textures, a few in the wood and walls category, and one new texture in textiles.

One pre-colored large easter egg with bow, and there are four of these uncolored eggs for kids to color on their own.

In the .png section there are three different angel statues, and this antique glass fireplace lamp with crystal drops.

...and a couple of old church doors with their surrounding stonework on transparent backgrounds.

Also newly released are three (two seen here plus one more) vintage autos on transparent backgrounds and saved as .png files.

PNG Objects and Textures for March 1st.

Here we are at the beginning of a brand new month - one in which we'll see the advent of spring. Well, at least the calendar spring, if not the actual weather for spring. Here in the north it was bright and sunny - a beautiful day, but still quite cold.

Working on our main site this week we've added a new section for Photo Edges. These are photoshop files to be used for framing images, so while they may not be of much interest to the texture nuts out there, the photoshop lovers will enjoy it.

We do have a few new textures - most of them in the abstract textures section. These textures are a blend of photography and digital paint, and some of them are also going to be useful as backgrounds.

Among the new PNG files this week are a really nice table lamp with it's silk shade and a nut-dish, a modern ceiling fan with black blades, a vintage camera with it's attached flashgun, a small hand-held microphone, assorted kitchenware, and some framed wall art.

PNG Files Updates...and A Few Textures

This week we have a few less texture files than usual in the updates, but more free png files - which tend to take a little more work than the average texture files take.

There are some interesting items and objects in the png updates this week - a selection of milk glass jars (vintage) with metal lids, and a yellow holder with bullet casings, along with a 3D render of a paint can. As well, there's a series for a yellow teapot showing the teapot from different views, with the lid on or off. Two files of building materials are set up so you can build your own block wall or roof

Updated textures include some from the abstract category, one in the rock category and a couple in the textiles section.

The files can be found in their respective section on Free-3D-Textures, but if you visit the Home page, some of them are direct linked to the correct page to download from.

There is one odd file you'll find in the png section this week. It contains three different sections of fur from a cat, along with a pair of cat's eyes, and a cat nose.

A Week of Mixed Textures

This past week has been a bit of a mashup for us here; family issues come first for us and I've spent the majority of this last week looking after a much loved Aunt. Time well spent in my books, but it does take time away from the work I do for textures and photography, so although you may find a few less textures this week, I think I've managed to put together some that are going to be pretty useful.

I used my time at my Aunt's place to gather some fabric textures since there's a wealth of different fabrics availabe in her home, and then spent whatever free time I had mixing some photographic textures to create some interesting rusted metal pieces, and a couple of abstract pieces.

As usual, all of these can be downloaded or viewed full size at Free-3D-Textures.com, but you can preview some of the new pieces here. Keep in mind that I use this blog to announce new textures, but I don't always show previews of every new texture I've uploaded during the week. The texture categories at the main site should make it easy enough for you to find what you are looking for, and the site search over at Free-3D-Textures seems to work pretty well. If you want a brown texture and don't care if it's metal, fabric or abstract, then search for brown, or brown textures. The new larger site seems to be working well in terms of organization and downloads, so I've been feeling pretty good about having made the decision to expand.

Hopefully, you folks have been enjoying it too.

I'm not sure what next week will bring (in fact I seldom know in advance what's coming) since my Aunt should be home from the hospital and may need a little more help than usual, but you can be sure I'll have at least a few new things for you.

This week's new textures can be found in the Abstract, Stone, Metals, and Textile categories. If you missed last weeks complete listing, just check the last page of each texture category to find the new stuff.

Of course, along with the new textures are some new stock photos, some of which you might find useful for extracting textures from, so don't forget to check the stock photos sections too. And as always - if you need something and can't find it, please don't be afraid to ask!

Another Bunch of New Textures Released

The textures added this week run the range from some nice abstracts to some smaller photo texture files. A little bit of almost everything, including a couple of new brick textures and a rather nice texture of redwood roof shingles.

It's been a busy week over all - we've got 15 new textures, 30 new free stock photos, 10 new png files and a couple of new graphics.

An interesting abstract texture in black and gray with an edgy, modern feeling. Varying shades of gray, black and white combine with a yellowish shade to add interest to the colour palette, and and overlay of black cracks ads to the roughness of the texture, a bit of a bedrock sort of texture. While this is not one of the super large textures, it is big enough to be useful as a web background.

This blue texture has a nice light, wispy feeling. The main colors and tones in this one are mostly in the pastel range - blue, white, yellow, light pinky-mauve shades and it has a slightly ethereal quality because of the color and the wispiness. Really quite pretty if made seamless and rendered over an orb to create a planet. This one is mostly a photographic texture, manipulated a bit to give it some depth.

This next one is from the wood and walls category of textures. A rather nice photo texture of redwood shingles. These are on the roof of a restored set of buildings on the grounds of Berry College in Rome (Georgia) and if you look at the larger file you will notice a few pieces of missing shingle. My wood category is somewhat sparse at the moment (hey, it's winter here) so I'm always happy to find an old file I haven't used yet...it's almost like getting a birthday present.

Bricks, Mortar and Wood…

Generally that makes a house, but today it’s just a few new textures. We’ve added a few new files for brick textures, and an interesting bit of wood – it’s a very large burl on the side of a tree. Rather unusual to see something like that. As well, there’s a couple of new abstract textures for you – useful as textures in 3D renderings, but also as backgrounds.

An interestingly textured brown, tan and white brick with brown mortar and straight stacking, and light red brick with moss-colored mortar and typical brick stacking.

An uneven clay floor in the shape of bricks, with colorations ranging from tan to light mossy green and pale orange, and an interesting blue and black abstract texture.

A marvelous abstract with motion and movement in red, black and gold, and an interesting burl of wood on a tree trunk.

All of these can be found in the appropriate textures section on Free-3D-Textures.com

Along with these, there are also some new files in the free PNG section:

Some empty shell casings in red and blue, and a corner armoir of dark-stained pine.

A warm yellowish wall-clock with light wood frame and a yellow ceramic piggy bank in the shape of a rooster.

Over the course of last week, and the weekend (yes, sometimes we do work weekends) there have also been quite a number of new stock photo files uploaded – spread throughout most of the stock photo sections. Some winter landscapes, people photos, the toy section is up and running, and in the “flora” section there is a couple of images of holly – the closeup one might be useful as a texture as well.

A selection of stock photo toys (more in the section than this sample portrays) – these are mostly “boy toys” – cars and trucks, including a tow-truck and some collectibles, a vintage rubber ducky and the cutest teddy bear I’ve seen in a long time. He’s a white teddy, wearing a coat of brown, with red and white candy striped buttons.

As well as the textures, PNG files and stock photos, you’ll find two new texture brushes in the free Photoshop Brushes Section.

An abstract texture brush which gives results quite similar to mud cracks, and a denim texture brush.

Don’t forget – if you are looking for textures only, take time to browse through some of the stock photo sections. There are some image files in the stock photos that you can extract some interesting textures from, particularly if you only need smaller files that would be used in 3D rendering programs. At this point, I believe we are approaching 500 stock photos in that new section, and of course there is also the free PNG section and the free graphics section.

Better Late Than Not at All

I missed updating you last week – not because I didn’t have any new textures but because I’ve been pushing ahead with updating the site with the free stock photos section. I did, in fact, update a number of new photos.

Once again, they are mostly in the textiles category. For a long while now that particular texture section has had very little added to it, so I decided to try and fill it out a little with new images. In the coming months I’ll probably update the wood/walls category too, since there isn’t currently as much in that area as I’d like to see.

So, for those of you looking for photographic textures for 3D use here’s a bunch more – these aren’t traditionally things you’d want to use for backgrounds, but there are one or two things that might be suitable, like the new texture in the abstract category.

Of the four sample textures above, the first turquoise one can be found in the abstract textures section, while the second is in the metals/rust setion, and the final two can be found in textiles.

Except for the wood panel in the first texture (which is in wood/walls) the balance of the above are in the textiles category – the jeans image is only one of three – there is also a front shot, and a shot of the front with an open zipper.

You may also want to have a look through the stock photo section because there are quite a number of things that might make useful textures as well. There are currently 400+ stock photos on site, with more to come, and they are broken into manageable categories to easily find the type of photos you are looking for.

Early Releases?

Although today is Wednesday, I actually did get the week’s releases posted up over on Free-3D-Textures.com earlier in the week. The textures on-hand this week are mostly textiles and fabrics, although there is a new one in the Abstract category, along with a couple of new .png graphic files which you can find on the homepage sidebar – we’re gearing up for Valentine’s day over there, so if you have a desire for hearts and love, be sure to check out the seasonal features in the sidebar. I hope to change these out to different designs a few times between now and Valentines day.

The lone new texture in the abstract category is a fake tortoiseshell – not the shell of a tortoise, but the design of a patent leather jewel case. It’s shades of black, brown, and golden taupe make for a pretty good texture for use on ground planes, and perhaps even as a textile for 3D renderers.

The textiles this week run the gamut from crushed orange velvet, to ribknit sweaters and tissues.

Samples of the two newest valentine designs can be seen here. These were created partly with my own elements, and partly with some free photoshop brushes from Hawksmont Universe – sadly, the free brush section seems to gone, as all I can find is a “page not found” notice. I’ve had these brushes for some time, so when the downloads for photoshop page disappeared, I have no idea. It’s too bad, since the brushes from this site were free for both commercial and personal use, and were well-crafted.

For now, that’s pretty much it for the week. I have a bunch more photo textures of textiles on the camera in preparation for next week, and a few ideas for more Valentine images and graphics, so be sure get your weekly dose of textures from Free-3D-Textures.com

Back to Work - Textures and PNG Files

I hope you all had a marvelous Christmas with family and friends this year. The mad rush is over, the wrappings are trashed, and the food has gone to the hips, but we had a blessed holiday and now, it's back to work.

Technically, today would be a holiday in Canada..."Boxing Day". For the unitiated, that's the day after Christmas. It fell on a weekend this year (Saturday), so many work places and businesses are still closed today to observe the Boxing Day holiday.

Although I haven't posted anything for the last week or so, I have been working behind the scenes on some new textures, and some graphics and png files. These were released today over on Free-3D-Textures.com, along with a couple of Valentine images. Yep, we're already getting ready for the next big holiday with graphics and designs for Valentine's Day.

You'll find the two new Valentine's images posted in the sidebar of our homepage - get them for free to use on your website, blog or printed cards. (Please remember to follow the usage rules).

Here are some small samplings of the uploaded textures today - these aren't all the textures added today - there's a couple of others you'll be able to find in the textile and abstract sections. Most of these are rendered fractals with some photoshop work added - they should make good textures, but they will work equally well for background designs.

Along with the textures a number of free PNG files were released; among them, this vintage yellow milk jug, a snapping turtle, a stack of hats, a footstool (ottoman) with metal legs and faux suede seat and a couple of other things as well.

Above is one of the free Valentine images offered on our home page: heart-shaped candles with red foil hearts and bows. Be sure to grab this one.

Backgrounds, Graphics & PNG Files from Free-3D-Textures.com

A few new things for this week - a little late in the week, but I'm still trying to upload all the older texture files from this blog into the new site, as well as create new ones for everyone. So, I guess as they say, better late than never.

New textures in the Stone/Tile/Brick category include a photo texture of a nice chunk of pink and black striated granite with a rough texture, and some smooth beach stones.

In the Water/Sky/Dirt/Grass category is a photo texture of a sky with clouds and a flock of birds.

These three are in the Abstract texture category, but they are more geared towards use as backgrounds than textures. They can, with some manipulation on the part of the user, be put to use as textures though. These really must be viewed at their full size to see the details - all three are fractal renders that took some time to complete (on of the reasons this week's releases took so long).

Besides the new textures and backgrounds there are also additions to the graphics section and the png section.

Don't forget to check out the home page and grab your full-sized copy of the snowman family for Christmas!

New at Free-3D-Textures.com For December 1st.

Lots of new stuff uploaded today over on Free-3D-Textures.com - new textures in almost all the texture categories, some new photoshop brushes, a few new graphics and a bunch of png files. Worth a look!

I really hope everyone has book-marked the new site, because before long this one will stop being updated with the news, and may disappear altogether. The new site is updated in a variety of categories every week, sometimes more than once a week, so it's definitely a good idea to start using it, as opposed to this one. On this site, all you get are notices of the new uploads, and not a complete listing of all the new files.

Here's a few samples you'll find in the appropriate sections:

Free photoshop brushes: graphic heart line drawing, lines, and cracked walls. Check the photoshop brushes section for more.

Releases This Week at Free-3D-Textures.com

Here's a few new releases from the Free-3D-Textures.com site - a small batch of new textures, a couple of texture brushes for photoshop, some new png files and a few new graphics. A little of almost everything.

For the texture or background fans:

Pretty much all the textures released this week are in the stone/tile/brick category, and you'll find them on page 3 of that texture category - new brick texture, an interesting rough texture tile in dark brown and black, and lots of little stones - some with moss, some underwater and a red texture with sand, stone and other layers mixed in.

In the png section, a cute little china tea pot with blue and white floral decorations and a stand up handle:

There are three separate png files with transparent background showing three views of the teapot - sideview with the lid on, and with the lid off and a front view with the lid on. You can find these three files on page 1 of the png category. Besides this set of files there are two others - a man's shaving brush with a brass handle and a brass bookmark with a coloured butterfly on the end (found on page 2 of the png category).

Two new photoshop brushes for use in texture creation or collage work - leaves underwater and nature. These can be found for download on page 2 of the photoshop brushes section.

And for those looking for backgrounds to use, there's a couple of new files in the graphics section.

These are a couple of 3d-renders that some might find useful in creating their own scenes in 2d programs, like photoshop. These can be downloaded from page 2 of the graphics section.

There's also a couple of other new things uploaded not shown here, so have a look around while you're there and see what else you might find that interests you. As always, the stuff is free - but please check (the very liberal) licenses. You can pretty much use this stuff for whatever you want but please don't claim authorship of the original files, nor try to sell them.

Newly Released Textures at Free-3d-Textures.com

Have a quick look at a few of the new textures released over at Free-3d-Textures for this week - just a sampling of some of the new stuff:

And for the background crowd, there's a new seasonal background - "Christmas Background", which can be found on Page 4 of the Abstract Textures section.

Free-3d-Textures.com - See the new textures!

Below you'll find some of the new free textures and backgrounds available on Free-3d-Textures.com. These are only thumbnail size images as I am beginning the move to the new server with the large files. In order to download the new textures, you'll have to visit the appropriate texture section on the new site, Free-3d-Textures.com. Each image is linked to the page on the new site, so if you click the thumbnails below, they'll take you directly to the new site.

Please have a look around - while we are still missing the stock photo section, the texture categories have lots of selections, and there are files available in the the graphics and png sections, and tutorials for photoshop and photography, and a couple of pages of free photoshop brushes.

A thumbnail of a larger texture/background in a gorgeous shade of blue with misty, swirling, fog-like effect.

A lovely effective background texture with depth and motion and lots going on in mauve, blue, pink, white and dark colours blending below the light. Unusual, and untitled.

A collaged background texture using photographs of garden nasturtiums, leaves and text on a transparent background to create this "olde-worlde" style design. Particularly useful for backgrounds, but will also make some very nice textile/fabric textures for 3d work.

Free 3D Textures

It's been a long while since the last textures were posted...that's because I've been in the process of setting up a new "dot com" website with all of my textures categorized and presented in a much nicer way for viewing and finding what you want.

Along with the textures, the site contains a section for free photoshop brushes, free png files, a few free graphics files and there will be (this is what we're working on right now) a rather large (500+) selection of free stock photos. Also, there are separate sections for photoshop tutorials and photography tutorials & articles.

It's pretty much going to be a "one-stop shop" for free downloads of my give-away works. The site layout is mostly complete, and we're finalizing the setting up of the gallery section for the stock photos, so pretty soon we'll be "open for visitors".

We hope y'all come and visit the new location. We think you'll find it a lot easier to navigate than the blog.

WATCH FOR THE OPENING ANNOUNCEMENT HERE!

In the meantime, here are a few new textures to say goodbye to the old blog. Once the new site is "open", this one won't have new texture updates, so this is sort of a final send-off for you folks.

A slightly-stoney look in the light and dark gray texture - mostly painted texture with a blending of a cloud photo.

The base for this stone-like gray and brown texture is the light gray texture above, mixed with a couple of photographic textures of cracked mud and another gray painted texture.

Grey Stone 10 - yep, yet another gray design. This one, however is not based on either of the two above. It's "bottom" layer is a portrait background from the studio, and then it's mixed up and blended with a layer of paint, and another two layers of texture photos - stone and sand.

Rust 10 - another "rusty" texture. Rusted stuff seems to be one of the most downloaded types of textures I see from here, along with the stone and brick types. Not sure why, but here's another rusty stone type texture created by blending four separate photographs and one stone texture and tweaking the colours a little.

This last texture (Rust 11) is created almost entirely from some photography backgrounds and a photo of a wrinkled sheet. It's colours are in my "popular" range of rust and gray.

You'll notice on the new site that many of the new textures will be named by Category and Number (as these two last ones Rust 10 and Rust 11). It makes things a lot easier for categorizing, and probably for saving and cataloging for the users too.

I'm very excited to be able to bring you the new site, and we're working hard to be able to give you a better experience for downloading and searching for textures.

Stone, Tile and PS Brushes

So today we have another somewhat mixed batch of textures - some tiles, some rust, some stones. Mostly a mix of photographic textures, and as a little bonus three a set of photoshop brushes with a grungy texture.

This interesting texture was created with two of my own photos and two photos from the public, free use archive at Nasa photos. Well, I think it's interesting - it could be used as a dark marble stone, or as a gaseous cloud for space scenes.

A bit of fabric, a bit of rust and some grungy brushwork created this texture file.

A small tile texture in interesting shades of blue, with blue grouting and some washed copper overlays. Unusual in appearance and colour.

Small tiles (the as the previous tiles), this time in shades of purple and mauve.

This texture doesn't particularly fit in with stone and tile, but it has it's uses. A thickly textured tree bark partially covered with moss.

Nature Photo Textures

Family concerns have prevented me from getting as much work done this week as I'd like, but I've got some free photo textures today for you - mostly from the natural world - sand, leaves, grass, tree bark and similar types of textures. Also included are a couple of png files, saved on transparent backgrounds.

Rusty Metal Rings and Chain - this is embedded in a concrete pier where larger boats dock and tie up to these chains.

Another metal tie-off post where ships berth, this one rusty metal painted a bright green, with black rope wrapped over it's arms.

This one should need no explanation - I think most people would recognize this, even though it's a back view. If you don't, then I guess you aren't much of a peanut eater.

Free 3D Textures - In The Pink

Today there's a special note for readers. In the coming months I will be combining 3 of my blog sites into one larger website, arranged into sections - one section for textures, one for png files, one for photoshop brushes, one for stock photos, and one for tutorials and articles.

This blog, along with the free stock photo blog and the free tutorials blog will stay here, on blogger, but once the new website is up and running, all new files will be uploaded and available on the new site, along with the old ones. The blogspot blogs won't be updated once the new site is ready to go.

It's just become too time consuming to maintain these on separate blogs. So watch for the notice that announces the opening of the new site.

Now, on with today's files - two png files with transparent backgrounds and six "in the pink" painted textures.

Today's textures are all painted textures, and all were created using the awesome Twisted Brush paint program and then worked a little further in photoshop. These files are 1024 X 1024 pixels in size, but none of them have been tiled to seamless. And, as you can see...all of them are in some shade of pink, from very light to raspberry tones.

Free 3DTextures

Today's batch of textures are a mix of painted textures and photo-paint textures. A few are already seamless, and a few aren't. Most have a fair bit of added texture to them, and there's some rusty-crusty stuff too.

This texture started out as a yellow and white watercolour painting with underlying darker colours to help give it some added texture. This one is a seamless tile.

A photo texture combining two photographs of rust and one of pebbles - this one is not a seamless tile.

Another photo texture combining three different rusty photos resulting in rusty scabs on a rusty background. Not a seamless tile.

Photo texture of scratched red metal showing gray paint underneath and overlaid with two other photos of rusty scabs and dots of rust.

This painted green seamless tile is heavily textured and should result in some interested textures in a 3D renderer.

Another heavily textured paint piece in a golden to green tone. This one is also seamless.

Today's textures are mostly photographic textures, and none have been worked into seamless tiles. Lots of cracked paint and rust textures, most of which have multiple uses for digital artists or 3D artists. There's also a new set of seven photoshop brushes created from some of the textures seen here, and a couple of new .png files.

These brushes are high resolution textures, mostly of rusty, crusty bits and pieces. The set contains 7 brushes that will be useful for adding texture to images.

This png file on transparent background is the signal light from an old flatbed truck.

An old dodge 500 flatbed (the same one that provided the signal light) also provided this old headlight. This file is also in png format with transparent background.

Another png file of an old broken window in the foundation of an old barn. Could be interesting used in a spooky or eerie hallowe'en image.

A nice texture of rusty streaks and pits on the black paint of an older model horse trailer.

An old metal barrel (or metal drum) completely rusted from top to bottom provided this really excellent rusty texture.

Smaller splotches and streaks of rust dotted on a background of black auto paint.

The weathered boards from the upper portion of a large barn; these have been painted dark red, and in places you can see bits of hay poking out from the cracks between the boards.

An old plywood board on a box trailer with badly cracked and lifting black paint - here and there you can see bits of a salmon colour beneath the peeling black paint.

The blue paint of the old dodge 500 truck, rusted and cracked, and lifting from the metal surface makes a useful texture.

Both this texture and the following one are the painted concrete foundation from the same barn that provided the red boards above. Can you tell I spent some time out on a farm this week :)

Painted Textures, Brushes and a TV!

Today's textures are all new releases, and you won't find them anywhere else but here. I also don't intend to release them anywhere else, nor include them in any of the sales packs, so you should grab them while you can.

Also included today are 3 new photoshop texture brushes for those who want to experiment with making their own textures.

You can download these 3 texture brushes in one brush pack (.abr format) HERE.

An additional surprise for for today is a new png object file - this flat-screen LCD TV is isolated on a transparent background, saved as png for easy use. These can be used in 3D rendering programs, game creation programs and photoshop or other similar image programs. Have fun with this one. The original file is 1800 pixels.

This painted texture was created in Corel Paint using thick strokes of oil paint in brown and white, then blended and textured. This will probably create some interesting looks in a 3D rendering, possibly even some good fabric textures.

This is another paint texture created in Corel Painter. A background of light and dark terracotta tones, overlayed with a fine, but sharp network of cracks. This additional texturing of cracks could make this an interesting texture for for terrains in a 3D rendering program like Bryce (and others), or possibly a decent texture for some creature skin.

An abstract paint texture using strands of blowing wheat as it's base design. The dark mustardy-gold and textured paint strokes make this useful for a number of things, like ground planes or terrains, and perhaps on tree trunks as well.

A dark fiery texture in deep reds and yellows, with touches of black and other deep colours created this painted texture.

A texture of wide paint strokes with brush detail in muddy yellow and very deep reds with an added texture of dark cracks.

Hot neon green, black yellow and turquoise give this painted texture the look of of a toxic gas cloud. This could have some interesting results applied to a planet, or space object.

The Weekend's Textures

Well, it's been a busy weekend...and the last long weekend of the summer, so I spent a fair bit of time out in the sun. Where else would you be on a fabulously sunny and warm weekend? I did manage to make some interesting new textures for you though, and for those who use my brushes, a few new ones of those too.

And, I'm running a little late for a doctor's appointment, so at the moment, there isn't going to be too much explanation with these...I'll come back and write the descriptions out a little later.

Here's the brushes - the tree trunks brushes are in two parts, but downloaded as one set containing both. When you put them together, they make a complete image. The remaining two are a leather texture and some more pitted concrete.

3D Tiled Textures and Brushes

Here's a couple of more brushes for photoshop - not really texture brushes this time. One is some abstract squiggled lines, the other is "exes and ohs".

And some 3D textures - a few are seamless tiles, a couple haven't been tiled to seamless yet. Those untiled ones are a fair size, leaving lots of room for both 3D uses and other purposes.

This "Autumn Grasses" texture is one of the untiled ones, but it's colour and tone as well as the added textures from brush work should make it pretty useful for a lot of things. This one was created from a photo of dried and cut hay-like grass, a photo of dark clouds and some of my own texture brushes.

"Burning Coals" describes this texture fairly well. The hot reds, deeper tones and blacks blend together to give this the look of smouldering coals. This one gives a dark and foreboding feel, and I could see it's use for a fiery planet or other similar use.

Lightly painted in reds and pinks, this seamless tile has rolling black clouds and dark spots...a little funky, but interesting rendered in 3D as a fabric texture.

An unusual texture of dark orange, black and a grey-toned green with somewhat shaggy lines and smaller veins. This one is pretiled for easy use in 3D renders.

Seamless 3D Textures

Finally, here's a few free textures (already made into seamless tiles) for use in 3D rendering, or game creation software. Most of them are smallish, and a couple are probably large enough to put to other uses.

Besides the free textures, there's also a new free texture brush, and one rather small png object that I hope someone can put to good use.

This is fairly small, but could be used in 3d or games (particularly hidden object type games) - a set of wedding rings in yellow gold with diaminds in a small velvet box.

Above are some samples of today's free brush using different colours. The Rusted Stone brush is high resolution (2500 pixels) and, as you can see by the samples, it can be used for textures in a lot of different instances.

Titled "Cousin IT" this free 3D texture resembles large soft hairy brushes, and might be good on trees and shrubs, and possibly terrains.

Another seamless tile for 3D renders in a lighter shade of green. This one resembles the soft, needles of a furry pine tree. Good for trees, shrubs, leaves and possibly grassy areas.

Here's a useful texture on a ground plane, or terrain. It's texture should create a very nice terrain, or a nice patch of dirt on a ground plane. With experimentation, it might be useful to combine with another texture in the mat lab.

This wire-like mass of coils in dark, dark green and black is likely to find a home in some futuristic rendering. Change the colours and put it to use in your metallic renderings.

Large Photo Textures (Yes, again)

I just thought a little explanation was in order with all the recent photo textures. I've been out over the last couple of weeks shooting photographic textures for some of my own projects, and figured they could be useful in other applications, like 3D renders. Though I haven't made these recent uploads into seamless tiles, anyone who works in 3D programs is likely to already know how to make seamless tiles, and these photo textures being 2000 pixels are large enough to give you enough room to make your seamless tiles from. Some of them have the probability of allowing you to make more than one seamless tile from the different areas.

This photo texture is from a very weathered boat dock. The wood is rough, and the edges of grain lifted from being exposed to rain and snow year after year, with obvious knots. This might be very good in 3D on something like a boardwalk or outdoors deck.

A portion of an old red-painted metal fishing boat; the surface of the red paint is badly scratched showing the weathered silvery metal of the boat skin underneath.

Another concrete texture. This photo shows some rough grading marks, as well as missing bits and pieces, and areas of the exposed aggregate used in the concrete mixture. These types of textures are awesome for use in collage and blended images to add texture.

Simple but useful, this water texture has a few highlights from sunlight on the water, small waves that appear on a breezy day, and a very blue tone.

Just little stones: these small pebbles and stones make a nice texture for a number of things. The underlying, tightly-packed, sandy surface shows up the tiny pebbles rather well.

This photo texture of the exterior surface of a metal boat and includes some of the rivets. The boat was once a blue-turquoise and has been weathered to a whitish colour.

The lightly textured surface of beige-toned faux leather. This is from the interior of a car - a 1985 Buick to be exact. Leather textures are almost always useful in 3D work, from being used as texture for furniture to shoes and jackets on rendered clothing.

Wood, Stone and Paint Textures

Today's free textures are mostly larger file photo-textures, but there's lots of room in them for making your own seamless tiles. Lots of wood textures today, and a stone texture, as well as one mud-cracks and one peeling paint. Have fun!

This first texture is already a seamless tile - larger size at 1024 X 1024 pixels. Downsize for easier use in 3D rendering programs. This was created from a photoshop brush made of one of the textures in the photo textures below.

This photo texture of wood is from the stump of a tree - weathered many years in the Canadian north, the open top end of the trunk stump is heavily cracked and pitted, giving a nice texture to this.

A sheet of weathered plywood. This plywood piece sits on the top of a boat dock. Outdoors for some years, it has weathered into a nicely textured piece, including the knots.

Nicely pitted chunk of concrete - this is the remains of an old dock foundation. Covered a number of times with new layers of concrete to repair it, there's lots of texture with many bits of the new layers missing. The yellow is a layer of fine, dead bits of tiny moss.

A nice piece of old log with large chunks of peeling wood. This looks as though it was burnt or charred in a fire, but it wasn't. It's part of a felled tree that has just been left sitting out in the open for who knows how many years, but the result is a wonderful texture for collage or 3D work.

This is the paint peeling away from a fiberglass fishing boat. This is the outside skin of the boat, and under the darker blue, you can the see the earlier paint, almost a cyan colour.

Recent heavy rains created this mud texture in some tire tracks. While the top layer of this spot was dried and cracked, underneath was still quite moist, and at the edge of the tire cracks there was still standing water. These areas of dried earth full of cracks make excellent textures.

Bog water - standing water in an environmentally protected wetlands. This particular area has large areas of pond-like water, but as they are mostly in darker areas and have no real current (unless stirred by the wind), the pond scum on top forms pretty quickly, and because of that, you can get some nice textures out of this watery area.

More Large Textures

I haven't got a whole lot today; I've been a little busy with work stuff and home stuff and sometimes, the free stuff suffers a little. These are larger file textures (mostly 2000 pixels) so they are suitable for making seamless tiles for 3D or for backgrounds or for use in collage work.

A heavily textured stonework piece - this began as a photo of rusted metal, and after a little brush work, the final piece looks pretty much like stonework.

This texture was created from a white wicker photo texture and has a separate weave design added to the original.

This "burning bricks texture (Bricks Afire) started life as a photo of...a field of pumpkins. Yeah, no kidding. A couple of different filters overlayed in separate layers and different blending techniques produced this interesting brick.

This interesting texture, when viewed large, really does look like burning lava. Any idea what the photo was when I started with it? A photo of berber carpet. Added to that was a portrait backgound and colour.

Larger File Textures for Backgrounds

Here's a few larger file textures suitable for use as web backgrounds, or for working into seamless tiles. These are among my favourites, which I finally decided to share under the license noted in the sidebar.

A photo texture of a dark lake with crusted bits of ice and frozen waves. This is an excellent texture for inclusion in collage type work and does very well in 3D renderings too.

This texture is primarily a photo texture (3 photographs combined) with an overlay of brushed "dirt" or grunge. Good for lots of uses!

A grungy sort of texture suitable for use in 3D imaging, but also great for a background file. This could also make an interesting paper texture if you lighten it some, and might make a decent texture brush, for those who use or make photoshop brushes.

Water photo, rusty metal grid photo and a solid rusty metal photo combine to make this texture in dark browns.

A background of fireworks, brushed and blurred and overlayed with two separate texture brushes creates this worn leather look texture.

Yeah, I know...it's brown again. I guess I'm just in a mood for brown today, because the next one is a brown base as well.

A photographic portrait background, some red clouds and a few grunge brushes created this fiery brown background texture.

Free Photo Textures and Brushes

Today's images are simple photo textures - a selection of clouds you can use in texturing or making seamless tiles, or use them to replace the sky in other photos. There are also of couple of different ones - a piece of ground, with dirt, stone, pebbles, and a closeup of redwood, some tiny shelf fungus, and of course, some brushes. Didn't get around to doing a background today.

Some free brushes - above are four high res clouds brushes, two med. res of the airplane contrails, and the redwood brush (from the photo below).

A smaller photo texture showing a smaller section of a redwood board. This texture is about 800 pixels.

This texture might have some interesting uses in the mat lab if you make it a seamless tile. This was a photo of some tiny versions of shelf fungus. They covered a fallen tree whose trunk had become an old damp log, right there in the forest. All these little bumps and protrusions might give some interesting results. This one is about 1800 pixels I think.

Fairly boring photo texture, but useful when manipulated a little. Easily put to use in layering collages and blended backgrounds, or in 3D renders. It has areas of shadow and highlight, stones of a variety of sizes, dirt, and smaller pebbles. There's also a matching photoshop brush for this texture - I'll try to remember to upload it on the next post.

The balance of today's uploads are the selection of clouds images for whatever purpose you find helpful. There's a mix of distant clouds, closeups, lower clouds, larger clouds. I think most of these are 1800 pixes to 2000 pixels (reduced from 3000-40000 pixels, so a little upsizing probably wouldn't hurt them much if you needed to.)

I guess that's it for this time folks...I've been shooting some other photographic textures that might come in pretty handy...soon as I fill up the disk there'll be some brand new stuff.

Textures, Frame Brush & A Background

Here's another brush, this one probably more useful for photo fans than anything else. It's high res at about 2100+ pixels in width and 2048 pixels high.

And on to today's texture files. Once again, not seamless, but large enough to make your own seamless tiles from them.

This one is composed of green and yellow designs on a light background with a series of comic-style half-toning overlaying the original design.

A stucco-like texture in shades of melon and coral - could be useful for backgrounds and in the materials lab in 3D programs.

An interesting and useful texture with fabric creases and flower designs in shades of purple and fuschia.

A pretty and cooling undersea acqua texture. It reminds of looking up through the water to the sky on a sunny day, from the bottom of a swimming pool.

Free Photoshop Brushes and More Free 3D Textures

Okay, another round of free photoshop brushes - these created in PS CS3. Two are high res at 2500 X 2500 pixels, and one is 800 X 800 pixels.

Onto the free textures for today. A bit of a mishmash, some fully painted style, some a mix of both paint and filtering, and some a mix of photos, paint and filtering. Free to use - please remember to read the licensing for both the free brushes, and the free textures. None of this batch of free textures are seamless.

This is a fully painted texture in yellow and green - rather abstract but it resembles to some degree the rough texture of frescoed stucco. It might perform well as a wall or tile texture.

A fuzzy offering (titled simply "fuzzball") in shades of deep blue, deep purple, mauve and almost white with details looking somewhat like fuzzy balls. Painted texture could be fairly useful in water plane, textile or simply an extra in your mat lab.

A partly-painted texture with a cracked texture brush underlaying one of the painted cloud layers. The final piece is almost reminiscent of a marbled texture with it's cloudy appeared and underlying cracks. Lots of uses for this, including possible backgrounds.

Strangely titled (Parrot Orange), this texture is a little wild and crazy, and it's main use would probably be in the materials lab, though if you happen to be into funky fur coats, this texture rendered on a clothing piece might give some interesting results. The colours range from orange to red, with tiny hints of green and a blended yellow.

This surprising texture was done with a paintbrush and some smears. The greens go from bright neon to dark, almost black with a number shades in between, giving it the appearance of underwater reeds. Could be some interesting uses for this in trees, shrubs and plants, as well as backgrounds. One of the free brush offerings today was created with this texture.

3 Free Bushes & Some Textures

Something a little different today - a couple of free brushes for Photoshop. These were created from my own images - all three from hand drawn graphics rather than photos. These 3 brushes are included in the one "set" in the download packages (below). Now for a couple of new textures - painted textures, but these are not seamless tiles. The files are 800 X 800 pixels, so they are large enough for you to make seamless tiles if you need them.

Other than the fact that this free texture is in shades of blue and black, it reminds me a little of those brushes in the carwashes - the drying ones. When they brush up against the window glass this is sort of what they look like. When viewing the full size of this image, there is a bit of a weird 3D effect that throws you off balance a little.

A mixed texture in shades of green with a hint of peach. This one reminds me of christmas ornaments we used to make. The craft instructions were to use a pail of water, and drop spoonfuls of oil paint into the water, then dip the glass ornaments into it. When you pulled them out, they had designs that looked just like this oil paint mixed texture.

Don't really know about this one - it might have some interesting uses in a 3D program, or as a mixer with something else. Magenta and black swirls and bubbles.

This last texture for today in shades of orange, red, and peach sort of looks like the inside of those vegetable gourds...the kind they make those organic loofa sponges from.

Interesting Photo Textures

I managed to grab a few interesting photo textures over the weekend. Boredom can do funny things to a person :) We've had some bad thunderstorms, and lost power on and off all day Sunday, so instead of working on digital textures, I looked around for some stuff that would make interesting textures from a photograph.

A textile from one of our livingroom chairs. I've always loved the pattern and colours of this - the green/gold/taupe/beige along with the chair design give it a slightly modern feeling, but the designs and pattern in the fabric combine to give it a slightly retro feeling.

A very basic gray vinyl flooring designed to look like faux tiles. This is not a favorite feature in our home - someday (hopefully soon) we'll replace the vinyl floor with slate or clay tile floors. The mottled shading in the pattern gives the flooring (often referred to as linoleum) the ability to hide marks, but makes it slightly more difficult to clean. While it looks okay, I hate it.

Another textile texture - this time a towel, in bright melon/peach colour. What can I say...I really was bored.

Laminate wood flooring. This is a rather high quality laminate flooring that has the rich look, colour and feel of real wood floors. It cost me nearly as much as wood flooring, but it's much more serviceable in a high traffic area. Between the pets and the grandkids, we needed something extremely durable, but easy to clean and that always looks nice. This fit the bill perfectly, and is way easier to look after than the white broadloom that was here before.

This is a sheet of plastic "window cling" - it's somewhat like the well-known "mac-tac", but there's no sticky glue, it just clings to a clean window. This particular stuff comes in a number of designs (stained glass, abstracts, frosted, pebbled, etc.) and looks much nicer and more artistic than mac-tac. It's easy to put up, and easy to remove, and serves the purpose on a temporary basis. Eventually, we'll be replacing the front door with one that has stained glass in a design similar to the "Mission" style, but for now, this abstract green and blue piece is better than nothing.

Another textile photo - sheer window curtains in pale green. You are probably starting to get a picture of my livingroom in your head by now :)

This one is a little tougher to see until you open up the larger image. It's a textured plaster ceiling (from our livingroom...what else?) Most new houses today wind up with that sprayed popcorn stuff on the ceilings, but ours doesn't have that anywhere. A couple of the ceilings have this textured design, and some are smooth drywall instead of the plaster, but it's a welcome relief from that popcorn stuff.

This is one I think I forgot to upload with the last batch. A heavily textured fabric background, overlayed with a mosaic tile pattern is autumn shades of orange, gold, brown, and green.

Well, I guess that's enough boredom for one day. Have a blast today!

Free Tiles 'n' Textures

Just a couple of new ones for today; some seamless texture tiles and one fractal render that was too pretty to mess with. While it isn't likely to make a good texture (the fractal), you are free to use it on your website or blog if it suits your content. Just be sure to follow the license rules (see the sidebar).

This is a marvelous texture for 3D uses. A combination of photo textures (plastic, textured ceilings) and brush strokes makes up this beautifully golden texture. The bright red shades remind me of blood, hence it's title "Bleeding Gold". This one is a seamless tile.

This new texture was created by combining a number of photo textures, among them rock surfaces, marble, and rusted metal. It has a very rough and textured appearance and should work pretty well for terrains or rock meshes in any 3D software. I can't remember if made this one seamless or not, so you'll need to check it.

This rough set of tiles would work as interior flooring, or exterior walls, and could easily be manipulated in the materials lab into other purposes. It started with a combination of photos: red curtains and raindrops, and was overlayed with a filter to create the tiles.

This interesting bit of texture was created from a single photograph of dried autumn leaves floating on the white foam of a moving stream. Combined with a photo of a muslin photography background, and then "shattered". It's filled with interesting forms and loads of texture.

As promised in the title, here is the fractal image for whatever use you can fit it to. It's title is "Soul Dance".

Hopefully some of you will find useful purposes for these textures. If anybody cares to share, I'd love to see what you do with some of my stuff. It's always nice to know they are useful.

Free and Interesting Designs

Something a little different today. Rather than turning my apophysis renders into texture files, I decided to load up a couple of the newest (rendered today, in fact) in their normal form. There are backgrounds for these, but if you'd prefer to have the png file with the transparent background, simply contact me and I'll email you the file.

None are terribly large, but I think the smallest is 800 pixels in width. More than enough for use on the web.

This one is titled "Flashes of Blue and Brown" - it's an interesting mix of form, colour and shape and could be used as a blended background with some other image, on it's own, or turned into a seamless tile for texture use. Abstract, like most of texture renders, but it stands pretty well on it's own, too.

This one reminds me so much of a bow of floral patterned ribbon that it earned the simple name of Floral Bow. Pretty on it's own, and I'm not sure of the texturing results with this one, but it might make an interesting patterned textile, or floral designed carpet for 3D renders.

Spirits of Light - Most likely this can be used well on it's own. Given all of the background I'm not sure how well it would work for a texture, if at all. Most likely if you crop the extra background off it would be easier to work with in a 3D render.

Web of Blue Stars - or perhaps small galaxies for those who want to dream big. The shades of blue complement each other pretty well. This is mostly for use on it's own and it would, quite simply, make a very dark and likely not so attractive texture. Of course, you are certainly welcome to try it out as one.

Crusted Blue Ice - a mix of photos and filters created this crusty, thickly ridged texture in blue, and dark charcoal gray. This one is intended as a texture, and is already a seamless tile.

New Mix of Textures for this Week

Here's a new mix of textures containing some paint-style textures and some graphic-styles. Most are seamless tiles, but the sizing is a little odd since the dimensions aren't square. You might have to work with these a bit if you are going to use them in 3D or game creation software. As backgrounds, they should work though.

A set of graphic patio stones in shades of dark slate, medium and light grays. These should be good for outdoor scene renders, or indoor tiles.

A nice smeared paints texture in pastel tones of blue, green, yellow and grey. Should work nicely for interesting wall textures, or perhaps even textile renders.

A texture of splotchy orange-red, reddish pink and a white/blue colours resembling paint with water drops on it. Not sure what one might apply to this to, but it might make some interesting textures for a planet or clothing.

Similar to the gray patio stones, though a single "tile" this time, but done in neutral tones of gray, brown, beige, tan and taupe. The final tile is a graphic-style, though it began with a blending of two photos. Good for 3D renders of outdoor walkways and patios, or even indoor scenes for flooring.

Blotches and swirls with a watery overlay and blurred with both zoom and spin. It's a little unsettling to view, but mixed in a 3D materials function it might make an interesting water plane. Used as it, it could make some interesting pottery or vase textures.

This one is not particularly a texture, but it might make an interesting background, or could easily be manipulated into a texture.

More Larger Textiles (Untiled)

Streaks of Amber – this combines two individual photos; one of rusted metal and one of motion light streaks, and a layer of brush strokes.

Night Over Earth – this one combines four photos – a fabric texture, a carpet carpet texture, a sand texture and clouds. There is also a layer of brush strokes worked in.

Rocky Stripes – a texture combining layers of stripes in multiple colours, a rocky stone wall, woven ribbons and motion blurs.

Purple Planet – a misty purple & red texture combining photos of clouds, sand with bird tracks and rocky ground. In between a layer of purple brush work.

More Seamless Tiles and an Autumn Background

Here’s an autumn background with a “country-ish” feeling, but it’s styling lends itself to a semi-grungy, more modern use. I like it – in fact, it’s on of my favourite backgrounds. While it is 1200 pixels wide, it’s really only suitable for web use rather than print. Unless you plan to use to use it on a ground plane, or room wall it’s unlikely this one would work very well for any 3d program – on the other hand, 3d users can fiddle with it all they like and possibly come up with something they can use.

This next one is a small texture that doesn’t quite manage to be seamless, but it’s colour and abstract design should work reasonably well in a 3d program with a little work.

And the balance for today are seamless times – some are large and one is only 512 X 512, but that’s enough for most 3d or game design programs.

Long Overdue, but Here’s Some New Textures

Sorry peeps, I know these are long overdue, but sometimes ya gotta take time out for life. There’s one small texture and a couple of lager ones, not tiled, but nice. The larger ones give you enough room to make seamless tiles if you that’s what you need.

“Brownies” – yummy mint brownies is what this reminds me of.

“Golden Multi-rock” – a combination of textile texture, smooth underwater stones, brushstrokes and rockwall were used to create this mixed texture with lots of depth.

“Grayed Out” – combination of grey carpeting, brushwork and dark strokes make this tumbled gray stone.

Kitchen Sponge – technically not a texture, but useful for making some.

Photo Textures

Blue Ice Crystals – 512 X 512

(Small texture for use in 3D images, but this is not seamless. You’ll need to do the work yourself to make it so.)

The balance are essentially photo textures. With a little work on sizing and making them seamless most of these should be quite useful in 3D applications. As photo textures, they can be used as is for backgrounds.

Two images of stucco walls lit by streetlamp with shadows of vines and tree branches. A little on the spooky side, but I can envision a number of uses for these.

Amber backlighting (again from streetlights) creates this golden abstract pattern on an frost-covered window.

Yummy green licorice – could easily be a lot of uses for this texture, even in 3D imaging.

Minnows at the edge of a shallow pond – lots of sand, silt, and pebbles in this one…not to mention all those little minnows.

Large File Textures

Small Textures for 3D Renders

Here are a few small textures for use in 3D rendering – all of these are 512 pixels square, but none of them are pre-tiled.

They will work without tiling, depending on your use. Below are some very quick sample renders showing the UNTILED textures in use.

Using the texture editor in your program will give you different results than you see below, so there are many possibilities for these textures.

Please remember to use these under the license show in the sidebar.

Bluemyst - a small texture of blue whisps and swirls, created using the Apophysis fractal renderer. This could be pretty useful for any space-type renders.

Rock Orange - created for using on rock meshes in Bryce 3D software, but it might be handy on a terrain or even mixed with another texture for a ground plane.

Rock Brown - the same texture as Rock Orange, only in shades of brown and taupe.

Green Crystal - a mix of an Apophysis render, a paint texture and overlayed photo of water created this crytal-like tealy-green texture.

The above is a small render using some of the textures listed in this post. The terrain was rendered simply using the Rock Brown exture, while the rock mesh was rendered with Rock Orange. The leaves of the tree object were rendered with green crystal and planet or orb was rendered with the Bluemyst texture. This render was done simply apply the texture to surface, without much in the way of fussing in the texture lab. Using the texture lab you can create a lot of different finishes with any of these textures.

Goldripple - this is another of my favourite textures. The colours of orange, red, amber and gold give it a very metallic feel and could work well as a metal texture, but as you can see in the render below, it also works reasonably well for other purposes.

This sample (above) was rendered using the Goldripple texture seen above. Here, the terrain object/mesh and the moon were rendered in Bryce using the texture with out any real adjustments in the texture lab. It makes for an interesting "otherworldly" feeling. For some reason, this render reminds me of a series of books by Edgar Rice Burrows - The Warlord of Mars. The books describe a lot of topological details...I guess that's why it reminds me of it (the red planet)...sorry, got a little off-topic there.

Circleswirls - another blue Apophysis abstract render, this time with some light yellowy-golden strings.

Soft Stripes - a texture of red and white in a somewhat striped design, but it's soft and feather with some interesting texture. This one is also the result of an Apohysis render.

Redbasket - The reddish coloured background strings and swirls were rendered in Apophysis, and the basket overlay was created using a filter in photoshop. You'll see in the sample rendered below that it gives some interesting effects when used in 3D programs.

The sample above was rendered in Bryce using "Soft Stripes" for the moon, "Red Basket" for the terrain, and Circleswirls for the water. You'll note the interesting effect "Red Basket" has given to the terrain - it looks very much like there are streams of water washing over the crevasses in the terrain, however, the only texture used on the terrain was Red Basket. Pretty fun.

These larger files haven't been pre-tiled or made into seamless tiles - because they are larger, leaving them in the original completed condition gives more options for the user to create backgrounds or their own seamless tiles from the sections they like best.

Free Textures - 2D & 3D

Not much today, I'm afraid. We're currently undergoing construction here at home, so it makes it a little more difficult to work. The noise and dust is rather annoying :)

"Deep Fire" - 2D texture for backgrounds or other image creation. This could easily be made into a tile for use in 3D programs as well, but it is currently not a seamless tile. It's a nice mix of orange-reds and darker background with a hint of visible flames.

"Abstracted" - an abstract texture sized at 512 X 512 with a smooth mix of background colours in shades of pink, mauve, peach and purple on a dark slate background. It's been overlayed with a texture of tiny bumps of water drops. This might work reasonable well for orbs and planet textures if you make a seamless tile from it.

Sorry people, I've had a busy weekend in the outdoors with little time for digital creations so I've only managed to complete one texture. We're also on the last leg of a move from one house to another - this week is the final push and all that's left is to clear out the garden. I don't have much choice, so the outdoor work has to take precedence at this point. I'll try to get some more stuff posted as soon as I can.

Shades of green and pink in a watery mix of colours. This should work pretty well in 3d or game design programs, and might also make an interesting background.

A few photographic textures (not pre-tiled, you'll have to do the seamless work on these if you need seamless) at 512 X 512.

Also included are a couple of new blog headers (designed to fit the Minima Template)

Misty Clouds - the pretty blue of a perfect sky with whispy clouds.

Water - the tealy blue of cold water with loads of small waves from a slight breeze adding the texture to this watery texture.

Water with Reflections - light blue of an early morning lake with tiny motion ripples and the refletion of clouds make this a useful texture on a water or sky plane.

A couple of new blog headers to download and try out.

Amphibious Car - amphibious cars are those vintage autos that can run on land or in water, like a boat. These small cars are quite ingenious, and there are collectors clubs dedicated to the amphibious car.

My Old House - an early farmhouse design used throughout Ontario in the 1900s-1930s. This one in particular is built with an exterior of fieldstone, and is one of my favourite country houses in our area. Perfect header for home renovators or vintage home repairs, or even those offering restoration services for old houses. It might also work well for those who do modern reproduction work for vintage houses.

Skate Club - based on the image of a figure skater, this simple blog header would work well for a figure skating club or group, or even someone who sells items related to figure skating. It could even work for someone who has a more personal blog based on an interest in figure skating. Simple and elegant, and ready for your own text.
